Closing the Treatment Gap in Communities of Color: The Role of Providers in Medication-Assisted Treatment for Opioid Use Disorder Patients

This webinar will highlight the use of FDA-approved medications in combination with counseling and behavioral therapies, collectively known as medication-assisted treatment (MAT), for the treatment of opioid use disorder among people of color. Speakers will discuss the utilization of MAT among providers, treatment challenges, and strategies for providing MAT in health care settings that treat racial and ethnic minority populations.
Objectives:
- Provide an overview of the epidemiology of the opioid epidemic, including differences by race/ethnicity
- Explain opioid use disorder treatment options and benefits, including differences by race/ethnicity, and naloxone utilization for opioid overdose prevention
- Address concerns about and challenges in providing MAT
- Describe strategies for providing MAT in health care settings that treat racial and ethnic minority populations, including an integrated care model, the use of telehealth, and addressing the social determinants of health through community partnerships
- Identify and share resources for providers and other stakeholders to facilitate the implementation of culturally and linguistically appropriate treatment strategies
