Diagnosing Alzheimer’s: the Case for Public Health Action

The earlier that Alzheimer’s and other dementias are diagnosed, the sooner people and their families can receive information, care, and support. Unfortunately, current evidence indicates only about half of people with dementia have been diagnosed by a physician. Join the Alzheimer’s Association on Thursday, March 7th from 1:30-2:30 p.m. ET for a national webinar to learn why public health needs to take action on this important topic and what the sector can do. Presenters:

• Lynn Meinor, Alzheimer’s State Plan Specialist for the Utah Department of Health, will discuss Utah’s multi-component approach to increasing early detection and diagnosis of dementia among healthcare providers as well as enhancing the public’s understanding of early diagnosis. 
• Lauren Seemeyer, MPH, Senior Associate Director of Healthcare Professional Services for the Alzheimer’s Association, will discuss the Association’s recommendations to increase early detection and diagnosis as well as available resources that public health agencies can utilize to encourage health professionals to address cognitive health.
• Molly French, MS, Director of Public Health for the Alzheimer’s Association, will summarize the scope of the problem, highlight other state efforts, and discuss how the Healthy Brain Initiative’s State and Local Public Health Partnerships: The 2018-2023 Road Map can help increase early detection.
