Did you know running a gas powered lawn mower for 1 hour emits as much pollution as driving a car 196 miles?
This year’s Lawn Mower Exchange Program has 1,259 electric lawn mowers and 972 electric lawn trimmers available to residents who live in summer ozone nonattainment areas (Davis, Salt Lake, Tooele, Utah and Weber counties). The Exchange will take place in three separate locations along the Wasatch Front. Participants will be able to exchange a gas-powered lawn mower and/or trimmer for a discounted electric lawn mower ($99) or electric trimmer ($49) or one of each. Fee waivers are available for qualified low-income households. All participants must meet the eligibility criteria listed below.
Eligibility- Must be 18 years old or older to qualify
- Only one electric lawn mower and/or electric trimmer per household may be purchased through this event
- All participants must exchange an operable gas-powered lawn mower or gas-powered trimmer for the electric equivalent
- Only dry (oil and gas removed) lawn mowers and/or trimmers will be accepted as waste at this event. No other waste will be allowed
- Only one gas-powered lawn mower and/or gas-powered trimmer per household can be exchanged for a discounted electric lawn mower and/or electric trimmer
- Must be present at the event in order to receive the purchased electric lawn mower or electric trimmer at the discounted price
- Participants must present a current government-issued picture identification at the event
- All participants must be selected to participate through the online random-selection process Utahns who live in areas that regularly experience poor air quality as determined by the Environmental Protection Agency, are eligible for the program. Qualifying counties in Utah are as follows:
- Davis County
- Salt Lake County
- Tooele County
- Utah County
- Weber County
