USDA ‘Smart Snacks’ Rule Takes Effect
The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s
updated nutrition standards for snack foods and beverages sold in school vending machines, stores and a la carte lines
took effect today. The new standards will result in more fruits and vegetables, along with items containing more whole grains, being served as snacks, with limits on the amount of fat, added sugar, and sodium.
